2層基板と4層基板:設計に合わせて選ぶ方法
Choosing a PCB layer count is a design decision, not simply a choice between a cheaper and a more expensive board. The right answer depends on the circuit, available space and how signals and power move through the layout.
When two layers can be a sensible starting point
A two-layer board provides copper on the top and bottom. It can suit a relatively simple circuit when the layout leaves enough room for routing and effective ground connections. Before committing, sketch the placement of connectors, major components and power circuitry. If routing already looks crowded at this stage, reducing the board outline may make the problem harder.
What four layers can offer
Two additional copper layers give the designer more options for routing and reference planes. A ground plane can help provide a more direct return path, but only when the layout preserves that path. Cutting up a plane or routing a sensitive signal across a gap can undermine the intended benefit.
Texas Instruments’ PCB layout guidance emphasizes return-current paths and careful ground layout. Extra layers do not automatically solve signal-integrity or emissions problems; the stackup and placement still matter.
Ask these questions before requesting a quote
- Can the important signals be routed without repeatedly interrupting their reference paths?
- Does the component density leave practical routing space?
- Are there fast signal edges, switching power circuits or sensitive analog nodes that need extra attention?
- Does the design require controlled impedance or a specific dielectric arrangement?
Confirm the stackup early
A “four-layer board” does not specify the dielectric thicknesses, copper weights or impedance geometry. Discuss those details with the manufacturer before finalizing critical traces. Compare quotes using the same dimensions, quantity and other specifications so that you can see what the layer-count change actually affects.
