Check PCBE Gerber files and resolve import errors

Validate PCBE fabrication exports, preserve original data and resolve parser errors without changing board geometry.

Updated Oct 6, 2026 · 2 min read

Start with a complete PCBE export

Export the used copper, solder-mask, silkscreen and outline layers, together with drilling data. Identify each layer by name or include a layer map. Keep an untouched copy of the complete export and the source project.

Identify the actual error

  1. Load the layer set and drills into a Gerber viewer. Record the exact error, file name and reported line.
  2. Check whether the issue affects all layers or only one. Inspect units, coordinate-format declarations and aperture definitions without changing them.
  3. Try regenerating from the source before editing files. A parser error in one CAM application does not prove the board geometry is incorrect.

Some older PCBE exports group several extended commands inside a single parameter block. A receiving parser may have difficulty with that arrangement. Separating complete commands into individually delimited parameter blocks can address this specific compatibility issue, but only after confirming the original syntax and the reported error.

Do not paste another board’s header into your file. Changing units, coordinate precision, offsets, polarity or aperture definitions can silently alter the design. Ask DIYIPCB to review the original archive if you are unsure.

Verify any repaired copy

Compare the original and repaired renderings, including measured dimensions, pads, holes, arcs and cutouts. Keep a record of exactly what changed. Submit one approved file set and explain the compatibility repair in the inquiry notes; avoid leaving conflicting versions in the same ZIP.

Check the exported files

Open the exported Gerbers and drill data together in a Gerber viewer. Confirm the outline dimensions, copper-layer count, pad-to-hole alignment, cutouts and mask openings. Check top and bottom views before accepting the export. A drill drawing or PDF does not replace machine-readable drill data.

Use one design revision per ZIP. Keep old exports outside the upload folder and identify any special stackup, slots or plating requirements in a fabrication note. See the complete Gerber package checklist.

Upload to DIYIPCB

Open DIYIPCB PCB / PCBA Online Quote, upload the Gerber ZIP and choose the material, specifications and quantity. Verify the displayed dimensions and layer count against your design; the preview is a reference, not engineering approval.

For bare PCBs, the Gerber ZIP must also contain the drill data. For assembly, provide a matching BOM and placement file as well. Use the available cart or inquiry option for your selected service. See BOM and placement-file requirements.
