Check drill files, tool tables and coordinate alignment
Resolve missing drill data, undefined tool sizes and shifted holes before sending a PCB package to DIYIPCB.
What the drill file must communicate
A machine-readable drill file needs hole locations and tool diameters, with enough information to interpret units and coordinates. Plated holes, non-plated holes and special drill spans must be distinguishable. A visual drill chart can supplement this data but does not replace it.
If tool diameters are missing
- Re-export the drilling data from the final CAD design, preserving the full header and tool definitions.
- Compare the export’s drill report with the actual holes and vias. Every used tool identifier must have the correct diameter.
- If the source is unavailable, supply the original drill file and its matching drill report to DIYIPCB for review. Do not infer a hole diameter from the surrounding copper-pad size.
If holes are shifted or scaled
A constant shift often points to different export origins or offsets. A scale error can indicate units or coordinate-format interpretation. Check the exporter settings and the viewer’s import settings, then regenerate if necessary. Do not move drill coordinates by eye to make a single preview look right.
If slots or non-plated holes are missing
Inspect every drill output, including NPTH and routed-slot files. Slots may be represented in drilling or routing data depending on the CAD exporter. Explain plating and finished slot dimensions in a fabrication note. A line on silkscreen is not a slot instruction.
Should I manually add a tool table?
Prefer a fresh CAD export. Manual repair requires an authoritative tool-to-diameter mapping and a verified understanding of the file’s units and syntax. Keep the original, document the repair and compare the complete result in a viewer. If either the mapping or coordinate interpretation is unknown, request review instead of guessing.
Upload to DIYIPCB
Open DIYIPCB PCB / PCBA Online Quote, upload the Gerber ZIP and choose the material, specifications and quantity. Verify the displayed dimensions and layer count against your design; the preview is a reference, not engineering approval.
For bare PCBs, the Gerber ZIP must also contain the drill data. For assembly, provide a matching BOM and placement file as well. Use the available cart or inquiry option for your selected service. See BOM and placement-file requirements.
