Rogers and PTFE PCB Materials: Specify the Exact Grade

“Rogers PCB” or “PTFE PCB” is a starting point for a discussion, not a complete material specification. A manufacturer name and a broad material family do not identify one interchangeable construction. For an RF board, connect the material request to the design assumptions used in the circuit and transmission-line models.

Identify the laminate precisely

Record the manufacturer, product designation, dielectric thickness and copper specification used by the design. Include the relevant datasheet revision or a link to the current document. If the model uses a particular dielectric-constant value, state its source and the conditions associated with it.

Rogers provides material-property and impedance tools because material selection and circuit geometry need to be evaluated together. A dielectric value taken from an unrelated table is not a sufficient basis for approving an alternative laminate. Avoid treating a brand name as an electrical parameter.

Separate the required property from the preferred part

Some projects require an exact approved material; others allow a reviewed alternative. State which case applies. For a permitted substitution, list the characteristics that the responsible engineer must assess and identify who can approve the change. Purchasing should not authorize an alternative solely because its description contains the same broad resin family.

For example, a request can say: “Quote the specified laminate first. List any proposed alternative separately with its datasheet, construction and expected changes for engineering review.” This preserves the original design basis while allowing an informed discussion about availability.

Supply the full board construction

  • Label signal and reference layers in sequence.
  • Identify required dielectric thicknesses between relevant layers.
  • State the copper requirements and finish selection.
  • Mark impedance-controlled structures and their target values.
  • Explain any hybrid construction or material-specific restriction.

Review changes before regenerating artwork

If the proposed stack differs from the design stack, evaluate the affected geometry and performance before releasing revised files. Keep the calculation inputs and accepted material with the revision record. Do not approve an alternative by editing only the material field in the quotation form while leaving the engineering documentation unchanged.

The DIYIPCB PCB quotation page includes Rogers and PTFE Teflon categories. Use the request notes and supporting files to identify the exact grade and construction; a category selection alone cannot communicate the full RF requirement.

Use the related file and ordering checklist to prepare your handoff, then request a quotation from DIYIPCB. Include special requirements with your files for review.
