Export Gerber and Excellon files from Sprint-Layout

Export Sprint-Layout board layers and drill data, identify plating, and package files for DIYIPCB.

Updated Oct 6, 2026 · 2 min read

Prepare the layout

Open the final Sprint-Layout board, such as a .lay6 project. Check the outline, copper clearance, text and intended hole sizes. Verify the physical board in PhotoView, then check the actual manufacturing export separately.

Export Gerber layers

  1. Open the Gerber Export command under File → Export.
  2. Select the used copper layers, required silkscreen, solder mask and outline. Use clear top/bottom labels in the output names.
  3. Check solder-mask generation settings so that intended solderable pads are exposed. Keep the normal production layers unmirrored.
  4. Choose the output folder and click Create Gerber files.

Export Excellon drilling data

  1. Open the Drill data (Excellon) export separately.
  2. Check drill sizes and the distinction between metallized and non-metallized holes. Separate files can make this clear; if a combined file is used, provide an unambiguous plating note.
  3. Save the drill output alongside the Gerbers using the same coordinate reference.

Do not send only the layout or preview

A PhotoView image helps communicate appearance but does not define fabrication geometry. Keep the editable project for revisions and send the Gerber-plus-drill package. If your installed viewer or edition cannot export production files, use an edition with export capability; renaming a layout file to .gbr does not convert it.

Check the exported files

Open the exported Gerbers and drill data together in a Gerber viewer. Confirm the outline dimensions, copper-layer count, pad-to-hole alignment, cutouts and mask openings. Check top and bottom views before accepting the export. A drill drawing or PDF does not replace machine-readable drill data.

Use one design revision per ZIP. Keep old exports outside the upload folder and identify any special stackup, slots or plating requirements in a fabrication note. See the complete Gerber package checklist.

Upload to DIYIPCB

Open DIYIPCB PCB / PCBA Online Quote, upload the Gerber ZIP and choose the material, specifications and quantity. Verify the displayed dimensions and layer count against your design; the preview is a reference, not engineering approval.

For bare PCBs, the Gerber ZIP must also contain the drill data. For assembly, provide a matching BOM and placement file as well. Use the available cart or inquiry option for your selected service. See BOM and placement-file requirements.
