Custom Acrylic Laser Cutting for Panels, Covers and Displays

Explore custom acrylic panels and covers, with practical guidance on drawings, thickness, color, engraving and the details needed for a reviewed quote.

Define what the acrylic panel will do

Acrylic can be used for display pieces, electronics covers and custom panels where the outline, cutouts and appearance need to work together. Start the enquiry by describing the application rather than only the overall dimensions.

For an electronics cover, identify the components it protects and the mounting points it must match. For a display part, explain the visible faces and the intended viewing direction. For a front panel, show the controls, labels and connector openings.

The DIYIPCB acrylic cutting service supports drawing-based enquiries for custom shapes and engraving requests. Its quotation process confirms the selected material, operations and delivery requirements before production.

Specify color and thickness together

Use the service page’s sample references to describe the requested color or appearance, then state the sheet thickness. Clear, frosted, opaque and transparent colors serve different visual briefs; availability is confirmed for the requested combination.

A screen image is a reference, not a guaranteed physical color match. If appearance is critical, identify an agreed physical sample or approval method before accepting production. Describe whether matching is required across a batch or against another component.

Do not choose thickness only from appearance. Explain the panel’s span, attachment method and handling conditions so suitability can be reviewed. A selection in the enquiry form is a specification request, not a structural assessment of the finished product.

Communicate cutting and engraving separately

A cut outline, an internal opening and an engraved label represent different instructions. Separate them clearly in the drawing package and provide a reference image explaining the finished result. Identify the surface and viewing direction for any lettering or artwork.

For a transparent panel, state whether the design will be viewed from the engraved side or through the opposite face. Ask for the artwork orientation to be confirmed if that distinction could change the result. Keep text and logos associated with a specific part revision.

Material manufacturer PLEXIGLAS guidance on marking describes laser marking as one possible way to apply writing and imagery. Your requested artwork and appearance still need to be reviewed for the actual material and process.

Consider edges and visible surfaces

State the edge finish expected by the design. The service offers an as-cut request and a polishing request for review. Mark which edges are customer-facing and which are hidden in the assembly.

If a cover has a visible front face and a protected back face, identify both. Describe handling or protective-film requirements where they matter to later assembly. Agree how cosmetic acceptance will be evaluated rather than assuming every surface is inspected against an unstated display standard.

Include photographs or a sample reference to communicate the intended appearance, while retaining dimensions and written requirements in the drawing. A photo helps explain the brief; it does not reliably define size, color or finish by itself.

Prepare a drawing-based request

Provide the outline and cutouts in a suitable drawing file, packaged in a ZIP when submitting CAD files. Include a dimensioned PDF with overall length, width, thickness, important hole positions and the part revision.

For several designs, add a parts list linking each filename to its quantity, color, thickness and process requirements. State different engraving or edge requirements for each part. This is especially useful when a clear cover and a colored mounting panel belong to one project.

If drawings are still being developed, explain what is defined and what needs advice. Final manufacturing specifications should be agreed before the job proceeds.

Approve the configuration before production

Review the quote for the correct drawing revision, quantity, material appearance, thickness, cutting or engraving work and edge finish. Check how any proposed substitution changes the visible result or assembly fit.

For a first design, identify the fit and appearance checks you want to complete before a larger batch. Keep the approved specification and sample notes together. A repeat order should refer to that configuration, with any new artwork, hole position or material request clearly marked as a change.
